Thief Job Change

Thief Job Change Guide (Ragnarök Online – Renewal)

Overview

The Thief job change quest takes place in the Morroc Pyramids basement, at the Thief Guild. Thieves specialize in agility, evasion, and utility skills. This guide explains how to change from Novice to Thief based on the official rAthena script.

Requirements

  • Base Level: Any level (recommended 10+)
  • Job Level: 9 (Novice)
  • Skills: All Basic Skills must be learned (Basic Skill level 9)
  • Items: None required
  • Zeny: None required

Step 1: Meet the Requirements

Before you head to the Thief Guild, make sure you have:

  • Reached Novice Job Level 9
  • Learned all Basic Skills up to level 9

If you haven't, keep training as a Novice until you do.

Step 2: Go to the Thief Guild (Morroc Pyramid Basement)

  • Map: moc_prydb1 (Morroc Pyramid B1)
  • Primary NPCs:
    • Thief Guildsman (application) at approximately (39,129)
    • Thief Guildsman/Brad (ceremony) at approximately (42,133)

Helpful links:

What to do:

  • Talk to the Thief Guildsman and tell him “I want to be a Thief.”
  • He will ask a few questions and then accept your application if you meet the basic requirements.

Script behavior:

  • If you aren’t a Novice anymore or are already a Thief, you’ll receive flavor dialogue and won’t proceed.
  • If you don’t have Basic Skill level 9, he will reject you and tell you to come back later.
  • If everything is okay, he will set your application status and send you to the next NPC for the ceremony.

Step 3: Complete the Ceremony and Change Jobs

  • After applying, speak to the Thief Guildsman/Commander (nearby). In the script, this step runs the official ceremony lines and finalizes the job change.

What happens:

  • Job Change: Novice → Thief
  • You receive: N_Main_Gauche (Item ID 13041)

Special Cases

Reborn Characters (Upper Class)

  • If you are a High Novice with a prior Thief branch rebirth (ADVJOB Assassin Cross or Stalker), the Thief Guide can directly change you to High Thief (Job_Thief_High) and grant basic thief skills like Back Sliding, Sprinkle Sand, Pick Stone, and Throw Stone.

Already Changed Jobs

  • If your Base Job is not Novice (e.g., you’re already a Thief or another class), the NPCs will acknowledge it and will not process a job change.

Tips and Recommendations

  1. Level recommendation: Base Level 10+ makes traveling through Morroc Pyramid safer.
  2. Save your spawn point in Morroc for convenience.
  3. After becoming a Thief, consider training spots with low-hit enemies where your Flee helps a lot (e.g., Payon Cave 1F early on).
  4. Next Paths: Assassin or Rogue for second job advancement.
