Mage Job Change Guide (Ragnarök Online – Renewal)

Overview

The Mage job change quest is straightforward in Renewal. The old potion-mixing test has been removed; now you only need to meet basic Novice requirements. This guide walks you through changing from Novice to Mage in Geffen.

Requirements

  • Base Level: Any level (recommended 10+)
  • Job Level: 10 (Novice)
  • Skills: All Basic Skills must be learned
  • Items: None required
  • Zeny: None required

Step 1: Meet the Requirements

Before starting, make sure you have:

  • Reached Novice Job Level 10
  • Learned all Basic Skills (First Aid, Play Dead, etc.)

If you’re missing anything, keep leveling as a Novice until you qualify.

Step 2: Go to the Mage Guild in Geffen

  • City: Geffen
  • Building: Mage Guild (Geffen Innards)
  • NPC: Mage Guildsman at geffen_in (164, 124)

What to do:

  • Enter the Mage Guild and talk to the Mage Guildsman.
  • Choose “I want to be a Mage.”

What happens:

  • The NPC checks that you’re a Novice and verifies your Basic Skills and Job Level.
  • If you don’t meet the requirements, you’ll be told to level your Basic Skills first.

Step 3: Confirm the Application

  • The Guildsman has you “sign” an application (dialogue only).
  • He acknowledges you meet the basics and proceeds with the change.

Outcome:

  • You become a Mage.
  • You are welcomed to the Mage Guild.

Rewards:

  • Job Change: Novice → Mage
  • Item: Novice Rod (item id 1639 / N_Rod)

Reborn (Upper) Characters

If you are a High Novice bound for transcendent classes (High Wizard/Professor path):

  • The Mage Guildsman recognizes you as reborn.
  • Job change is granted directly to High Mage (Job_Mage_High) if you meet the Basic Skill requirement.
  • You will also receive Energy Coat level 1 and lose Trick Dead as part of the transition per script behavior.

Already a Mage or Another Class

  • If you’re already a Mage, the NPC reminds you you’ve already changed.
  • If you’re another base job, you cannot change to Mage via this NPC.

Tips and Recommendations

  1. Level Recommendation: Base 10+ makes early Mage leveling smoother.
  2. Basic Skills: Be sure every Basic Skill is learned; this is the only real gate.
  3. After Changing: Visit Geffen for beginner wands and start learning key skills like Fire Bolt, Cold Bolt, and Stone Curse depending on your build.
